This mantra is one of the more potent of the ancient Sanskrit mantras. Sometimes said to be a healing mantra, often chanted at fire pujas (purification ceremonies) or for safe keeping when traveling etc...
Maha mrityunjaya is a call for enlightenment and is a practice of purifying the karmas of the soul at a deep level. It speaks to the adage of 'this too shall pass' with the idea that all happens in its own time just as it should. The liberation this mantra invites is to free oneself of the idea of control, that we may pass from mortality to immortality when it is time.

Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat
We Meditate on the Three-eyed reality (Lord Shiva)
Which permeates and nourishes all like a fragrance.
May we be liberated from death for the sake of immortality,
Just as the cucumber is severed from bondage to the creeper in its time.
